INFORMATION OF THE SUPREME MEDICAL COUNCIL
ABOUT CONSEQUENCES OF ENFORCEMENT OF THE ACT -
AMENDEMENT OF THE MEDICAL AND DENTAL PRACTITIONER’S ACT
AND THE CHAMBER OF PHYSICIANS AND DENTISTS ACT
On the 18th January, 2016 came into force the act of the 22nd December, 205 on principles for recognition of professional qualifications acquired in the European Union member states (Journal of 15 January, 2015, item 65) which implements into the Polish law the provisions of the Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council 2013/55/EU of 20 November 2013, amending the Directive 2005/36/EC on recognition of professional qualifications.
This act amends certain provisions in the act on the professions of medical and dental practitioner and in the act on the chambers of physicians and dentists.
All persons who completed their medical or medical-dental studies in a language other than Polish and wish to obtain a Polish license to perform the profession of a physician or a dentist or a restricted right to perform the profession, should prove their respective knowledge of the Polish language by taking an examination in Polish language before the Supreme Medical Council.
This means that a declaration made by a Polish citizen or a citizen of any other EU member state is not sufficient any more to prove the command of Polish; any person who completed the medical or medical-dental studies in a language other than Polish (including studies in English at a Polish medical university), regardless the citizenship held, is obliged, prior to obtaining the practitioner’s license (including the restricted right) to take and pass with an approving grade, an examination organized and held by the Supreme Medical Council.
